After touring together and gaining inspiration from each other's bands, SMALL BROWN BIKE and THE CASKET LOTTERY successfully collaborated in 2002 on an EP that laid the groundwork for ABLE BAKER FOX. Fast forward to 2006, with all members living in separate states - Nathan Ellis (Kansas City, MO), Mike Reed (Lansing, MI), Ben Reed (Chicago, IL), and Jeff Gentsterblum (Brooklyn, NY), they formed Able Baker Fox and began to work on a batch of new songs. The four spent six months trading the tracks that eventually led to a marathon practice in Chicago and four days in Kansas with Ed Rose to record their debut record.
"Voices" hits on all cylinders and builds on the years of rock the four veterans have behind them. With a trio of singers to draw from, Voices is full of texture and contrast, surrounded by vivid guitars and bass, all held up by flawless drumming. "Stuttering" and "Face On Fire" relentlessly power through from start to finish, while songs like "Blind Writer" or "Brand New Moses" use a more subtle approach to gather momentum.
But don't write them off as just another collaboration project. ABLE BAKER FOX is a band and Voices is another chapter in these four friend's never-ending process of creating music that's meant for turning up and pumping your fist in the air.
